First Night in a Brisbane Hostel Pod

9 September 2026

Checked into a hostel in the Brisbane CBD last night. First time I’ve ever done one of these sleeping pod things.

Turns out it’s smaller than my tent. I own a tent. A tent I chose to buy and sleep in, on purpose, in the wild, and it has more square footage than this pod. So that’s a bit of an adjustment.

It’s tight in there. Properly tight. You get in, you have a small existential moment about your life choices, and then you settle down and start negotiating with the ceiling about personal space.

On the plus side, you get a curtain. A curtain! Compared to a tent, that’s basically a private suite. No zip, no guy ropes, no waking up wondering if a possum is reviewing your food supplies. Just fabric and the quiet dignity of not being seen by strangers while you sleep.

I don’t think it’s for everyone. But I’ll give it a fair go and see how I pull up in the morning.
